West Michigan Coin Clubs Grand Rapids Coin Club
The Grand Rapids Coin Club was formally established in 1948 after two years of informal gathering and planning. There are currently 130 members which consists of youth, regular and life memberships. Meetings typically have about 20 to 30 attendees. The main purpose of the GRCC is to promote the coin collecting hobby through educational experiences, monthly meetings and bi-annual coin shows.
The club membership consists of those just developing numismatic interests, the novice collector, the experienced collector as well as coin dealers. At each gathering there are ample opportunities for learning, socializing, buying, selling and trading which are all free to meeting participants. Educational opportunities are provided through guest speakers and professionals.
Buying, selling and trading occur through the monthly free auction as well as dealers displaying their items for sale at very reasonable prices. The social experience is ongoing throughout each meeting. Free beverages and refreshments are available at each and every meeting.
The GRCC also places a strong emphasis on the youth who are developing an interest in coin collecting. Young persons of all ages are welcomed. Every youth that attends a monthly meeting receives a free numismatic gift from the club. At least once or twice each year a free youth coin auction is held. Each participant is given monopoly money to use for bidding. Everyone goes away with several valuable coins and related items.
Each meeting lasts about 2 hours and is full of good humor, current information and a very friendly and relaxing environment.
